Country of Origin, History of Malinoiss
The Malinois or Belgian Shepherds are descendants from herding breeds - like that of the Dutch Shepherd and German Shepherd. For several years, the Malinois was used herding.
Due to several reasons, the Belgian Sheepdog was at danger of extinction both after World War I and II. It was only due to the effort of some dedicated professors from a veterinary school that the Belgian Sheepdgo survived.
Finally, in 1956 the current breed standard was adopted and it specified the four varieties known today; the Groenendael, Laekenois, Malinois and Tervuren.
The Malinois variety became very popular in Belgium . It gets its name from the Malines region, where it was the predominantly used by the local shepherds.

A General Appearance of the Dog
The Belgian Shepherd is a medium-sized breed with an athletic body. It has a long, slender head with triangular, erect ears and a long, narrow but balanced muzzle. The body is muscular but not overly heavy. The tail is strong and of medium length and curves upwards slightly at the level of their knee.
The Malinois has short-hair. It has fawn colour with a black overlay and a charcoal-coloured face.
Weight: 55-65 lbs.
They are extensively used for police work as they are better with children when the officers keep them at home than German Shepherds are.
They need attention, companionship and a job to do or they can be destructive. They bond strongly to one or two people and need a strong handler who has a good understanding of the breed.
Belgian Malinois dogs are highly trainable and athletic in nature. This makes them very popular for obedience competitions and dog agility. This also makes them very popular in search and rescue and military work.
The Malinois adapts well to living indoors, although they are not best suited as indoor dogs
Are they suited to homes with kids?
The Malinois is not a typical family dog. They are very intelligent, beautiful, and loving. So the best type of owner or family for the Malinois is one that is ready to play and work with them. Malinois can be aggressive toward other dogs and cats unless they're brought up with them from puppyhood.
Health concerns are skin allergies,
eye problems, excessive shyness, excessive aggressiveness
and occasionally seen hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia.
