Country of Origin, History of Pudelpointers
They are a pointing breed that came from a cross between the German hunting poodle (pudel) and the English Pointer. In 1881, a German breeder, Baron von Zedlitz, produced the Pudelpointer from seven different poodles and nearly hundred different pointers.
Permissible colors of coat are liver, chestnut, light brown, fawn and black, with white marks on chest and paws.

A General Description of the Dog
The Pudelpointer has an athletic build. The ideal coat of this breed is short, harsh, wiry, and dense, with a glossy sheen. Some specimens are almost smooth coated and others have a rather long and woolly coat, but all Pudelpointers should have pronounced eyebrows and whiskered muzzles.
Height: 21 to 26 inches (53-66 cm)
Weight: 44 to 66 pounds (20-30 kg)
Temperament of the Dog
By nature the dog is friendly, inquisitive and eager to please, with a dash that makes it a pleasure to work with in the field and a co-operative attitude that also makes it a pleasure in the home. They have a saint-like devotion towards their masters and make excellent playmates for children. They exhibit great purpose, desire and a fiery intensity in the search and handling of wild game. Pudelpointers, as a rule, are excellent water dogs.
The Pudelpointer is suited to apartment life only if it is provided with high exercise. They do best with families which indulge in a lot of outdoor activities. They are moderately active indoors.
How active is the breed?
This dog is extremely energetic and tireless. It is very important that it gets daily vigorous exercise to prevent extreme indoor restlessness. They need to be taken on a daily, brisk long walk or jog or made to run alongside while the owner bicycles. They love to swim and retrieve. Lack of adequate exercise may lead to arrogant and destructive behavior. They are very intelligent and easy to train.
A simple brushing once or twice a week with a firm bristle brush will be fine for this average shedder. They only need a bath when really dirty since the Pointer is a very clean dog on its own. It's important to check their feet after they have been out exercising or hunting (in case of any torn pads or torn toe nails) and to check the ears regularly for mites, dirt, or fleas that may become trapped.
May be subject to hip dysplasia, Progressive Retinal Atrophy and skin cysts.
Life Expectancy: 12-17 years.
Group: Pointing dog.
AKC Popularity Ranking: Foundation Stock Service.
