Country of Origin, History of Italian Spinones
The origins of the Spinone are unknown. As is commonly believed, that they descended from rough-haired dogs in the Italian peninsula. These dogs were typically like the Pointers.
Some Italian paintings of the 15th century have similar dogs. Needless to say, they were popular among the nobility because of their strong hunting skills.
The modern Italian Spione can be traced to Piedmont in Italy and was probably developed in the 19th century.

A General Appearance of the Dog:
This is a strong, square-built, well-muscled, stout dog with human-like eyes. The length of the body is approximately equal to the height at the withers.
Their coat is rough, thick and flat and they have little undercoat. The coat on the head, feet and front of the legs is shorter while the hair on the eyebrows and lips are longer and stiffer. The dog thus has a thick moustache and beard.
It may come in various colors and combinations. It can be solid white; white with orange markings; white with chestnut brown markings; or brown or orange.
