About
Scottish Terrier
A sturdy and lovable dog, the Scottish Terrier is dignified yet kind and affectionate. He is playful and patient, but needs early socialization and a strong leader. He should be clearly shown his position in the family, else, will challenge family members.
He doesn’t bark much
unless the situation warrants. He can be a
good watchdog as he is brave, loyal and alert.

He needs thorough socialization
and obedience training while young so he can be
handled.
One caution: teach him not to lean
on people, especially children as he can easily
knock them over simply from wanting to be close.
Some are dog aggressive with same
sex dogs.
Lots of exercise in a well-fenced
area or a daily very long walk is necessary. Because of their power and stamina, they can
be completely out of sight almost instantly if allowed
to run free.
Grooming
The smooth, short coat is easy
to groom with once weekly brushing and monthly nail
trimming.
Health Issues
As with other large and giant
breeds, hip dysplasia, cancer, and bloat are common.
Tumors, heart disease, and tail injuries are frequent.
Do not have him jog with you or jump until he is
over a year old.
Height
This giant breed ranges from 28-32”
for females and 30-34” for males although
many get even larger.
Weight
Weights start at 100 lbs and can
range to 200 lbs with most dogs weighing 135-165
lbs.
Life Expectancy
Because of their size, this breed
has a short life span of less than 10 years.
