The English Springer Spaniel originated in England. It is the original English hunting spaniel. They became popular in America in the early 1700 as a hunting, tracking and retrieving dog. The English Springer Spaniel is a friendly medium sized, compact dog. It is a sturdy-looking dog whose back is about as long as he is tall. The length of the head is about the same as the length of the neck. The tail is usually docked and the ears are long pendant type.

Their hazel or brown eyes generally have a kind, happy expression and their tail is almost always wagging happily.

Coat Color

Springer Spaniels come in liver and white, black and white, blue or liver roan, any of which may have tan markings as well. The field version often has more white than the show or bench bred stock.

Their ears also need regular checking for signs of infection and the hair should be kept shaved on the under side of the ear to help prevent infection.
