Xander, The Great Dane |

Xander, a
Mixed Breed Great Dane was
taken in by
Crystal Burch from
Germany. |
Here's how
Crystal Burch describes
Xander :
Xander is very hyper. and ready to always go outside. very loving and giving to us. even though he is a big breed of dog. i dont think that he honestly knows that he is very big sometimes. when he becomes playfull he runs and jumps as if he is not very big at all. Xander has the most amazing personality on a dog that i have ever seen. when we look at him. you can almost tell what he is thinking. but he acts the same as a kid would. and that is what's funny about it. we never really think of him as a dog. but as a member of our family. |
Does
Xander 's behavior show the inherent Great Dane
characteristics?
Xander's breed came from europe over 5,000 yrs ago. from germany i might add. he was used mainly to hunt wild boar. and also used to protect the home. so when we walk him outside. any sudden movement from like cat or bird or whatever. he quickly stands still. the tail goes up. along with the ears. and he becomes motionless and sniffs the air. he is also very protective of his family. follows all of us around the home to see what we are doing. sniffs us to make sure that we are ok. then goes back to his bed and lays down. Xander's breed is the most amazing that i have ever run across. the size of them alone scares you. but yet they are nothing more than big gentle giants. |
Special Achievement of Xander :
Xander has this little bandana around his neck. its blue. a friend of mine have given it to him. you would think that a dog could care nothing more than what is around their necks. but Xander has become fond of this bandana around his neck. when i take it off to wash. he makes sure that it goes in the washing machine. standing there by my side to watch every move i make. then when its ready. he comes up prancing and holding his head up high for me to put that blue bandana around his neck. we laugh everytime. |
Crystal Burch's advice on what type of family should adopt
a Great Dane:
Anyone can own a great dane. very patient very caring people. these kinds of dogs enjoy outside alot. i would say that anyone could own one of these breeds. very loving and caring animals. good with people and very good with children. not to hard to maintain. i really cant say what kind of people or family to recommend for this breed. the great dane along with any breed dont really worry what kind of person you are. or how big your family is. all they want is love and affection. and in return they give love and loyality back. and will be there no matter what. |

Bosco ( Stordansk Awsum Bosco), a
Purebred Great Dane was
adopted by
Sarah Turnewitsch from
Australia. |
Here's how
Sarah Turnewitsch describes
Bosco ( Stordansk Awsum Bosco) :
Bosco is a four year old great dane |
Does
Bosco ( stordansk awsum bosco) 's behavior show the inherent Great Dane
characteristics?
Bosco is a true great dane, totally unaware of his huge size, enthusiastic but inherantly gentle. this sometimes creates interesting situations for example his desire to play with other dogs, but they (and their owners) can be put of by such a big bouncing dog coming toward them! like all great danes bosco thinks he is a "lap" dog and is happiest when trying to sit on your lap to be cuddled and petted. |
Special Achievement of Bosco ( Stordansk Awsum Bosco) :
The fact that there is nothing quite like the great dane. bosco is a full time job... but the reward of his devotion is worth every minute. it is such a special moment when we are out for a walk and bosco refuses to go another step, sitting down and leaning up against me to be patted and hugged, with a look that just tells me how happy he is to be with me. |
Sarah Turnewitsch's advice on what type of family should adopt
a Great Dane:
Great danes need plenty of attention, they are quite an emotional dog. good family dogs, but i would recommend that either dane and children grow up together, or an older dane with children. size wise an excitable dane pup and small child might not be the best mix. you dont need to be active to own a dane (they certainly arent) but they are very strong so its a wise investment to spend the time when they are young to train then well. |

Jericho :
Wonderful beutiful smart funny loving eager energetic the perfect man |
Does
Jericho 's behavior show the inherent Great Dane
characteristics?
Not sure, just now learning about the breed. but he is sure unique in his own wa |
Special Achievement of Jericho :
We have 2 children 5 year old son and an 8 month old dauhter. when Jericho first met her, you could hear him smelling her to blocks away it was so loud. we had to keep him in the back away from her because he was to intrested and it would scare her. but every time he heard her cry he would bark or whine.our 5 year old and him like to dig in the dirt together. my son will throw a handful and Jericho will "fetch" it. it really is quit a sight to see them rolling around in the dirt together. and Jericho wont dig in the dirt any other time. |

a Great Dane:

About
Ebony, The Great Dane |
|
Ebony, a
Mixed Breed Great Dane was
rescued by
Chea from
United States. |
Here's how
Chea describes
Ebony :
She is very funny and very spontaneous, she like company, is afraid of the dark, hates the sound paper bags make. and loves the snow. she has the manlyist bark in my area and she is extremely good at showing emotions, is normally very well behaved, and is not shy at all. she is actually the sweetest dog i've ever met. she is very hyper i find myself grabbing her collar alot and stoking her face until she calms down. due her hyperness she sleeps like a baby i wake up a night sometimes, hearing her dreaming because she sometimes wines and barks in her sleep and when i get up to see what it is she is normally asleep barking and moving her feet rapidly as if she was chasing a cat. i often am scared if she is having a nightmare. last thing i have to say is when i found her a t the pound she looked so sad and then when i met her in the meeting room she wagged her tail so fast and hard her entire rear end was moving and it looked as though it made it a bit hard to walk and the pound had named her ebony and i had never heard that as a dog name before and she was so unique we decied it was the best name for her. also she is very tall, slender, has very defined muscles, is black and white, and looks like the cutes little thing you've ever seen.she is also very protective of everyone in the family. |
Does
Ebony 's behavior show the inherent Great Dane
characteristics?
In a way yes and in another way no. no because pittbull somewhat natural behavior is to be mean but she is the most cheerful dog.also yes because great danes are very relaxed and she can at times and then she has her moments where she is just a crazy ball of wild fur. |
Special Achievement of Ebony :
When she was a puppy she could not eat any puppy chow because it would all make her very sick and vomity if it happens to you consult you vet and put them on dog chow. also just try sitting in front of your dog one day and just look into thier eyes i do sometimes and find myself thinking she known everything its like the entire worlds information sitting infront of you and other times its like she holds a secret behind those big beautiful eyes that she really wants to tell me but can't but then there are the rare time were she tiltes her head at me and then inches toward me and gives me a big slobbery kiss on the cheek. i just wanted to add that as i write this she is out in the living room snoring and kicking her feet. |
Chea's advice on what type of family should adopt
a Great Dane:
Her breed would be great for any type of family she is great with kids, toddlers, and babies, other dogs, and cats (she kind of just stares at them wondering what they are). she is even great with my grandma she calms all the way down and just keeps her company. also if your a young woman living by yourself and lets say in not the best area, she may be the sweetest dog ever but when it comes down to someone hurting her loved ones she is very protective. let me just tell you this story it was about three in the morning in pueblo and she was sleeping on the floor next to me and someone knocked on the door, at the time i was 13 and had very frightened look on my face well because we weren't in the safest part of pueblo, so ebony imediatly got into a crouch position with her teeth bearing straight at the door i opened the door just enough to see that it was a very small woman in maybe her 20's and looked ebony and said chill and she sat down and looked calm but if you were watching her eyes and ears at that moment you would know she was still on guard or voluntier security duty as i like to call because she was looking all around and had her ears perked up just a little as if she were tryin gto take in every thing. so what i quess im tring to say is that i think she would be good for every family. also one last thing she has like a sixth sense if your sad even if your in the other room she just automatically knows and she will get up and come and sit her head in your lap and lick your hand trying to be discreat about it as if you don't know for example she won't move her head she will just stick her tongue out as far as it goes and when you look at her she stops it is actually quite amusing. |
