About Roscoe, The Blue Heeler

Roscoe, a Purebred Blue Heeler was rescued by Whitney from United States.
Here's how Whitney describes Roscoe :
Roscoe is the cutest and most beautiful dog... but of course, i am a little biased. i am still not sure if he is purebred blue heeler, but he looks exactly like one. he has the cutest black patch on his behind right at the base of the tail. he also has the cutest big black patch over is left eye.. and two brown spots where eyebrows would be. he is very expressive with his ears. he is the sweetest, most loving dog.
Does Roscoe 's behavior show the inherent Blue Heeler characteristics?
This is where i question the purebred blue heeler. is is a very mellow, chilled dog, when we aren't playing. he loves to chew on his bones when we are just hanging out, but as soon as he hears those car keys jingle, he is sitting at the door waiting to go out. he is very protective as his breed is, and very very smart. i taught him how to shake using only 3 treats... but of course, to enforce it, i gave him more... but he picked it up so quickly. he is very sensitive and protective of me. when i am crying, he is there to comfort me. when i first rescued him, he still had the herding instincts, but he quickly learned not to do them. he is still learning with somethings, and is very eager to learn and please.
Special Achievement of Roscoe :
I've had dogs all my life: growing up as a kid, and in college, with my roommates dogs. i have never had a dog of my own. i moved out to colorado about a year and 1/2 ago. i lived here for a year without having a dog, because i knew i wanted a medium to large dog, and i was living in an apartment, and knew it wouldn't be fair to have a dog. well, last july, i just couldn't take it anymore.. i needed to have a dog. but, i am young, and still have a lot of responsibilities in my life, so i knew i couldn't handle having a puppy... and the world is full of so many loving, beautiful dogs who deserve a good home... so i went to the shelter. i knew, when i walked in there, i wouldn't be picking out a dog, he would pick me out. as i am going down rows and rows of dogs, with the pain in my heart growing bigger and bigger... i still didn't find one. there were 2-3 dogs per enclosed area, all jumping around to get my attention. not one stole my heart... as i am nearing the end, i see a lone dog in an encaged area. he's sitting in the back corner, all curled up, with his eye swollen and goopy. i walk over, as does he... i kneel down to get a better look at him, and he throws his ears up and gives me a big smile... i didn't even know dogs smiled like that... but my roscoe did. he had picked me out. i didn't care what was wrong with him, i wanted him. when they brought him in the room, and it was like i had owned him as a puppy... he even knew/learned his new name by the end of the day. he listened to me, and respected me, and most of all... he just seemed so grateful, and continues to be grateful everyday. of course, i'd love to win the contest, but i am really just looking to tell the world how wonderful roscoe is, and how fulfilling and amazing it feels to rescue a dog. it's true dogs are loyal and will love you forever, but a rescue dog emphasizes that tenfold.
Whitney's advice on what type of family should adopt a Blue Heeler:
Active people. roscoe took very well to my boyfriends 3 year old neice, when introduced in the right way. played with her a bit too.. so families would be good... but active families.

About Bandit, The Blue Heeler

Bandit, a Purebred Blue Heeler was adopted by Dave Hamaker from United States.
Here's how Dave Hamaker describes Bandit :
The actual breed is australian cattle dog. he is very possessive, aggressive and stubborn. he is very smart and is a fast learner if it is something he wants to learn. he will do many things and learns on his own quite fast. he does not do the things he doesn't want to like come, stay, don't bark and many things like this.
Does Bandit 's behavior show the inherent Blue Heeler characteristics?
Yes, he is somewhat like a typical blue heeler. i am breaking him in with groups of dogs and people attempting to socialize him. his aggression is something i am really trying to control.
Special Achievement of Bandit :
How can i train him to do the simple things like come and stay as i am fearful that he will get hurt if he doesn't listen.
Dave Hamaker's advice on what type of family should adopt a Blue Heeler:
Prior dog owners and a family that has time to devote to the dog or he gets bored very easily and then will think up something to do and typically it is something that you won't like.

About Bandit, The Blue Heeler

Bandit, a Purebred Blue Heeler was adopted by Susan from Australia.
Here's how Susan describes Bandit :
Beautiful! clever, loving and gently. typically marked, medium sized, sometimes bordering on stocky. high energy, happy.
Does Bandit 's behavior show the inherent Blue Heeler characteristics?
Highly intelligent. understood both english and sign. when there was more than one person in the house he would position himself halfway in between and when only one, by their side constantly. did not require a lead to be walked, walked by my side with only finger movements to guide him. high energy, no aggression at all.
Special Achievement of Bandit :
Bandit has been my best friend since i found him where i considered to be inappropriate, a suburban pet shop, in 1996. he was like a little bear and he had a black eye mask. since then we have gone through marriage breakup, death of a parent, an abusive relationship to finally a stable life. as a working dog he needed to be kept busy so he learned to help around the house, carrying things, getting the papers, getting my slippers when i got home from work. he was very intelligent and when we introduced the cats to the family, he again took all in his stride and coexisted happily with them. sadly, we lost this beautiful man on 17 november 2008. cannot believe how sad i am still.
Susan's advice on what type of family should adopt a Blue Heeler:
People who have a lot of land and/or are prepared to take this dog for lots of exercise. if you put a lot of time and love in you will have an amazing friend. they can be destructive if bored and they should never be left for long periods on their own.

About Shadow, The Blue Heeler

Shadow, a Purebred Blue Heeler was rescued by Joyce from United States.
Here's how Joyce describes Shadow :
Dark with lots of secrets. she's two years old, spayed, looks to have had a litter, quick learner, distracted by small animals. the shelter said she's a blue heeler mix.
Does Shadow 's behavior show the inherent Blue Heeler characteristics?
I don't know enough about her breed other than we chose her for her intelligence, temperament and size. she loves attention and she has a good right hook if she doesn't get it. she's not interested in squeaky toys, but boy can she chew in record speed. since we started walking her before and after we get home, the chewing has slowed down. considerably. we can't wait to train her correctly and learn new tricks.
Special Achievement of Shadow :
She's a sweet girl and a 30 pound angel who is going to help our family lose 30 pounds(collectively) as we are walking her twice a day.
Joyce's advice on what type of family should adopt a Blue Heeler:
Families who take their dogs everywhere to exercise them, socialize them and just show off with a great, loyal dog.

People with patience

About Shadow, The Blue Heeler

Shadow, a Mixed Breed Blue Heeler was rescued by Bea from Canada.
Here's how Bea describes Shadow :
Little bundle of energy that needs a job
Does Shadow 's behavior show the inherent Blue Heeler characteristics?
Definitively! she "eyes" her buddy, like collies do with sheep, but then goes after the legs, like the blue heelers do. she also went after our horse's nose and legs, just to get some of it's grain ... she was also known to heard the previous owner's cat.
Special Achievement of Shadow :
She was not socialized properly as a puppy (the family that had her just locked her in the backyard), and therefore she is scared of a lot of "normal" things. so we are working hard on taking her to different places, getting her used to everything, including other dogs and cars. on a funny note: her tongue is too long and is sticking out when she tries to concentrate or when she is asleep.
Bea's advice on what type of family should adopt a Blue Heeler:
A very active family, that goes for long hikes or bike rides with their dogs, also perferrably owns some property.

About Sonja Cameron, The Blue Heeler

Sonja Cameron, a Mixed Breed Blue Heeler was adopted by Sonja Cameron from Canada.

Does Sonja cameron 's behavior show the inherent Blue Heeler characteristics?
I have heard australian cattle dogs can be nippy.she looks more like a kelpie. don't know much about chocolate labs.i have had a blue heeler in the pass but "mira" is nothing like that dog.i did have the the vet
Special Achievement of Sonja Cameron :
