Your Cane Corso's Learning Style

Training Style: The Contradiction

He's quiet, at times even timid, dominant and an athletic dog and while it may seem like a contradiction many dogs fit this learning style. These are the dogs that can be quite active but they can also be fairly eager to please. On the other hand, the contradiction will take over as the dominant in the house, even if they don't enjoy it, if they find that there is no alpha in the home.

They are the dogs that are usually very comfortable when they are in their element. They need a firm owner who can provide strong leadership and firm rules and they also need a lot of exercise to burn off the energy when they have. Socialization is very important for this learning style since they can become very fearful when they are introduced to new situations and are out of their element.

In addition, while they can be very dominant, the contradiction needs firm, yet gentle training. Any harsh correction can permanently damage your dog's temperament. In addition, these dogs can be very sensitive to turmoil in the home and will react negatively to yelling

In addition to being fairly nervous, the contradiction can have difficulty paying attention during training. Training should be very short and entertaining. They should be exercised before training so they are better able to focus and if you can take breaks for the dog to burn some of the energy out, then he will be able to focus easier.

Training Style: The Star Pupil

Looking for a strong dog that is athletic and is the star pupil of the dog world then look no farther than this dog. They are known for being a dominant breed that does require firm training and consistent rules in the home but if they have those things in place, there really is no heights this dog can't reach.

Overly outgoing, they may have too much energy, which can make raising them a challenge. They are usually very eager to please but many times this eagerness can give way to a stubbornness that is quite alarming. This stubborn streak ties into their dominant nature and it usually rears its head at the worst possible time.

In addition to being stubborn, the star pupil has a lot of drive. While this can be wonderful since they learn quickly and are always ready for more training, it can be tiring. They may lose focus on what they are doing simply because there is something more interesting to see. IN addition, their well of energy can mean a lot of extra time spent burning it just so they are easier to handle.

Training with this dog needs to be firm and fun. They do need alpha training in many cases but there should never be harsh corrections used. In addition, time should be given for the dog to burn off his energy and to also have fun. If he is having fun and is working when he needs to, you will see him shine.

Training Style: The Pushy Canine

Although this dog can have periods where he is the perfect canine that is always willing to listen and is very eager to please, the pushy canine can be just that, pushy. This is a dog that can be very timid and instead of becoming fearful, the dog instead becomes very dominant and tends to be very stubborn.

They can be both easy to train and difficult and some days, they can really shine, listening to every command they are given while other days they dig their heels into everything that is asked of them. Generally, this dog is eager to please but they can be very sensitive and even the slightest correction can damage their progress and lead them to shut down with training.

It can be difficult to find the proper balance between firm rules and training that their stubborn and more dominant streak needs and the gentle training that their more sensitive side needs but if you can find the balance than these dogs can be a wonderful dog that is happy to work hard and is usually eager to please their owner.

Training Style: The Marathon Runner

A dedicated dog that is always up for a good run or a hard training session, this learning style can be a wonderful one to experience. Usually these dogs can be very active and this can lead to some problems in training if they find that training boring or they are not exercised properly. The best way to combat this is to keep training fun and to make sure that the dog's exercise needs are met before training begins for the day.

Once you have the energy level at a controllable level, these dogs can be a truly amazing dog to work with. They are usually very eager to please and they do not need a lot of direction to do a job. They can be a bit sensitive to harsh corrections so only positive reinforcement should be used when training this style of learner.

In addition, this is a breed that does need ample socialization since they can become quite timid and shy if they are allowed to. Take your marathon runner to a number of places and events so he becomes more confident in active and overwhelming places.

If he is properly socialized, this is the long distance runner of the dog world. He will always be ready to go and will be as active as you allow him to in a good natured manner. However, once the marathon is over, this friendly canine loves to relax with his owner and is sure to set a few records in snoring marathons.
