Jack Russell Terrier

Jack Russell Terrier: Teaching Commands, Housebreaking, Grooming

The Jack Russell Terrier, not to be confused with its longer legged cousin the Parsons Russell Terrier, was developed in England by clergyman Jack Russell. His purpose was to hunt small game and fox and even dig them out of their dens. Because of this, he is a feisty, energetic, little dog with lots of stamina.

The Jack Russell Terrier is absolutely fearless. He will keep busy, so give him constructive things to do. A strong, dominant owner who understands how to socialize and train him is needed for the Jack Russell.

The Jack Russell Terrier (sometimes called the Russell Terrier) can definitely be a barker and a digger. His hunt and kill instinct is stronger than most terriers, so do not let him off lead outside of a fenced area. Fences must be tall and secured underground as he not only digs, he climbs and jumps as high as five feet.
