Mica is my reason for getting out of bed in the morning. he is my friend, protector and companion. a handsome male dog, black and tan with lovely markings. he is my gentle giant. |
Does
Mica 's behavior show the inherent German Shepherd
characteristics?
Mica is very true to his german shepherd breed and is very loyal and protective. his brain is fine tuned to pick up every signal and he is very quick to learn. |
Special Achievement of Mica :
I bonded with mica from 7 weeks old and i feel that the first two or three weeks were the most important of all and as soon as he had all his jabs, i introduced him to as many new experiences as possible and he is a confident and friendly dog. he is well known in our neighborhood as being a lovely friendly dog. |
Carol Ashley's advice on what type of family should adopt
a German Shepherd:
I think that the best environment for german shepherds is with a family who either have had gsd's previously or have the time and dedication to give, to ensuring that the dog is well trained and under control at all times. german sheoherds need to know who is the alpha and that has to be you. having said that, gsd's will live happily with a single person or in a family situation. german shepherds are very adaptable and generally good natured. |

About
Meia, The German Shepherd |
|
Meia, a
Purebred German Shepherd was
rescued by
Bill Crawford from
United Kingdom. |
Here's how
Bill Crawford describes
Meia :
She is a typical gsd breed, but nervous and matronly |
Does
Meia 's behavior show the inherent German Shepherd
characteristics?
Her behaviour is exactly what you would expect, from a gsd but she is really bright and sneaky
when she is in the trunk of my 4x4 estate she can by pass the safety mesh i installed to keep her in the trunk when travelling,it took mr ages to find out how she managed so i hid and watchd her.the rear seat of my car has an arm rest to the outside of the seat back against each door about 6 inches wide and she pushes on this until it folds forward and she squeezes herself thru the gap onto the rear seat and then (this is the sneaky bit)she pushes the arm rest back into position and you would not be able to tell how she managed to get thru. |
Special Achievement of Meia :
When i first had her i thought she was very whingy and whiney but now i realize she was actually conversing with me she would whine just before my cell phone or house phone rang or when the micro wave pinged she would have made a brilliant hearing dog for deaf people because she also points to the item that is making or about to make the noise. |
Bill Crawford's advice on what type of family should adopt
a German Shepherd:
A family with a lot of time on their hands and who are able to have the dog with them for a lot of the day and a family who require a staunch, loving, protective, faithful to the end canine member pf the family. |

About
Greta Garbo, The German Shepherd |
|
Greta Garbo, a
Purebred German Shepherd was
rescued by
Nancy from
United States. |
Here's how
Nancy describes
Greta Garbo :
Greta is a beautiful, active, smart, loyal girl. she came to us a year ago through the central tx german rescue group. when they found her running loose, she was starved, sick with respiratory problems and almost gone. they fostered her and brought her back with tender loving care. she stole our hearts with her unconditional affection the minute we brought her home. she is wonderful with our grandchildren and they love her as well. she must be stimulated or she will become bored. an hour walk is what she lives for every day. she loves to play "search". i hide little treats and she searches until she finds every one. she also loves to play "guess which hand" the treat is in. she races around in the backyard like a greyhound, especially when the weather is nippy out. she has a favorite chair inside the sliding doors where she watches the lake, ducks, blue heron, squirrels. she also seems to have a built in clock, she gets us up if she thinks we have stayed too long in bed. rawhide is a favorite of hers. she doesn't chew anything in the house. sometimes, she will find a sock or shoe and bring it out to us. this is an indication that she is bored and needs to walk or play. |
Does
Greta garbo 's behavior show the inherent German Shepherd
characteristics?
She would dominate given any opportunity, so we must constantly nip that behavior in the bud. we have not been able to stop the jumping up on guests. we have tried every trick that is recommended. once everyonne in the house, she finally settles down. her other issue is dogs on our walking route. she begins to anticipate the dog before we are even with the house. so far, a short leash and making her sit until she calms down seems to work best, but, we are far from being where we need to be. also, we live in an area that is loaded with deer. they drive her nuts and once she got away from me and chased them thru catcus, cockleburrs etc. when we finally got her to come to us, she was a mess. we had to pick catctus our of her all day long. |
Special Achievement of Greta Garbo :
I would never have thought that a dog could bring so much to our life in our senior years. thank goodness we are a physically active couple. this breed is not for the sedentary. every senior should have a dog or cat as a companion. they enrich our lives beyond anything you can imagine. just be sure that you pick a breed that matches your activity level. |
Nancy's advice on what type of family should adopt
a German Shepherd:
As i mentioned above, this dog breed needs action. because this breed is a pack dog, i would not recommend it for a family who is gone all day. our greta wants to be with our "pack" constantly. it would be cruel to leave her home alone all day. they are loyal, smart and can be trained to do many things and should be, or they will become bored. they love children and are very protective. a family must have a fenced in yard. their protective instincts could become a danger to others under the right circumstances. they can be stubborn and must be handled with consistancy and love, never, never any hitting or agressive behavior. you must be calm and assertive. once your dog is trained, you will have the most wonderful family member in the world. |
About
Elsa, The German Shepherd |
|
Elsa, a
Purebred German Shepherd was
adopted by
Ron Wilhelms from
United States. |
Here's how
Ron Wilhelms describes
Elsa :
She is a very active, and beautiful all-black german shepherd. |
Does
Elsa 's behavior show the inherent German Shepherd
characteristics?
I have not had a gsd before; in fact have always had smaller breeds: cairn terriers and standard dachshunds.
so, this is a whole new experience for me, and i have no idea what is "typical" for the breed. |
Special Achievement of Elsa :
She seems to be very loving...almost to a fault...as mentioned in the above jumping/biting nonsense. |
Ron Wilhelms's advice on what type of family should adopt
a German Shepherd:
My grandchildren (ages 5 to 18) have been playing with her and she seems to enjoy their company very much; particularly when they run and play ball with her. she doesn't seem to be especially friendly to other dogs, however; probably best if the gsd were the sole dog in the household. |
About
Buddy, The German Shepherd |

Buddy, a

Harsh from
India. |
Here's how
Harsh describes
Buddy :
He is a good dog |
Does

characteristics?
Yes, his attitude behaviour relate to his inherent breed characterstics
he is brave, cool, playful, and a cute dog like his mother and father
|
Special Achievement of Buddy :
He is a long cote germen sheperd dog which makes him even
more special then general german sheperd dogs |
Harsh's advice on what type of family should adopt
a German Shepherd:
A family which can pay a lot of attention and can give a lot of love and affection to this kind of dog
it is a must to play and make him run walk etc.

About
Diesel, The German Shepherd |
|
Diesel, a
Purebred German Shepherd was
rescued by
Jojo from
United Kingdom. |
Here's how
Jojo describes
Diesel :
Very friendly, loves all people and other dogs! loves to play fetch and play with his toys and loves food. he loves to work such as finding things such as my keys for me. and he loves to do heelwork to music, agility and just doing general obedience. |
Does
Diesel 's behavior show the inherent German Shepherd
characteristics?
Yes because although he is too friendly he likes to chase people and try to grab their arms but just in a playful wall and he is very brainy and loves to help out with everything from finding things for me to cheering me up when i am feeling down |
Special Achievement of Diesel :
When we went to the rescue shelter to pick him he jumped right up on the cage door whining and we put our hands through anf he was licking them frantically. not entirely special but i guess it works. lol |
Jojo's advice on what type of family should adopt
a German Shepherd:
Someone who has lots of energy to give them a lot of exercise both mentally and physically. someone who needs help with things such as helping to do things. and someone who has lots of time to spend training it because they can become difficult to handle if not treated correctly. |
About
Lady Pica, The German Shepherd |
|
Lady Pica, a
Purebred German Shepherd was
adopted by
Mary from
Zambia. |
Here's how
Mary describes
Lady Pica :
Lovable / protective / loves to play / highly intelligent and likes to waatch television |
Does
Lady pica 's behavior show the inherent German Shepherd
characteristics?
Certainly the protective issue relates to the breed as does the intelligence.
when i come home, having been out i am usually brought a toy. one day recently there was no toy so i asked why have you not brought a toy.immediately she went and brought a toy and presented it to me. |
Special Achievement of Lady Pica :
I have two german shepherds, one male, sir gubbio and a female lady pica. they are joys to live with. they love the car. the minute the keys are picked up they become so excited and are always ready to go. but if i have my book bag with me (i am a lecturer) they just lay down and look as if to say see you later" |
Mary's advice on what type of family should adopt
a German Shepherd:
German shepherds are extremely loyal and loving and if they are socialized and trained properly german shepherds will fit into any type of family. however they are people dogs. they like to be with people not stuck outside in a kennel without human contact. |

Special Achievement of Sassy :
The most funny thing is when she was small, she hated anyone to laugh..strange..lol..now,she is 6 and a half months and more of a lady than a spoilt brat..i have spoilt her rotten actually.. |

About
Ravana, The German Shepherd |
|
Ravana, a
Purebred German Shepherd was
adopted by
Sasi from
India. |
Here's how
Sasi describes
Ravana :
He's only nine weeks old but already a fairly rambunctious sort of chap. and since he's teething, the family's ankles and my open bookshelves seem fair game. still, he's beautifully understanding and is even almost toilet-trained already. |
Does
Ravana 's behavior show the inherent German Shepherd
characteristics?
Well, he's already showing signs of being a bit of a 'top dog'...who will not take things lying down! |
Special Achievement of Ravana :
A li'l too young but catch me in a year's time |
Sasi's advice on what type of family should adopt
a German Shepherd:
Well, lots of space and attention. speaking for us, a gsd probably wasn't ideal for a flat. fortunately i work from home mostly and we have a fairly big size park nearby. |
